Beyond the passion for the sport of fishing, the founding members of Gulf Coast Fishers of Men and its volunteers, share a love for conservation and the younger community. In 2005, several young fishermen and business executives in coastal communities along the Texas Gulf Coast decided to create a program that would give local youth the opportunity to enjoy the sport of fishing along the Texas Gulf Coast. As the number of participants increased, local community members grew more interested and in 2006 Gulf Coast Fishers of Men was officially named.  The name was fashioned in recognition of how the sport of fishing has positively affected the founders of GCFOM as adults from a very young age. All of our members and volunteers share a love for the outdoors, youngsters in the community, conservation, and an overall improvement in our quality of life.

For the last year, GCFOM has operated under the sole support of the founders until recent outside donations, which have helped create the formation of our non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c) (3) organization. The two boats that are available for use have been leased out from private owners for the sole use of support in the efforts of GCFOM.

Both professional and support disciplines make up the family of GCFOM. Consisting of part-time staff and volunteers, these are the people who make it all happen. In cooperation with clients, donors, and various supporters in the community, GCFOM is comprised of a diverse group.

Professional staff members are those who are directly responsible to providing the services to our anglers. These include licensed captains, trained instructors, and deck hands. All staff and volunteers working with GCFOM are trained and/or certified by the respective agencies accrediting their knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Those who work in support disciplines make it possible for the professional staff to deliver services to our client anglers. These include volunteer management, facility arrangements, finance, fund raising and administrative staff.
